Sandblasting is a process that involves cleaning any surface using compressed air or liquid together with an abrasive material. The effect is similar to sanding, but sandblasting produces a more uniform surface and creates the roughness required for subsequent painting. It also allows for easy cleaning of hard-to-reach areas, such as corners or curves.
A wide range of suitably crushed materials is used for sandblasting. Besides sand—which, as the name of the process suggests, is sifted and cleaned—other media can be used, such as shot, dry ice, slag, glass, metal, or even ground nutshells and other plant materials. This allows for achieving specific textures and appearances on the treated surface.
